Elizabeth Alfheim
Mrs. Alfheim is in her 20th year teaching for Clovis Unified. Her passion is mentoring young minds including REC students, college students who are getting their teaching credential, and new teachers clearing their credentials. She implements the AVID program strategies in all her classes. This year she is teaching 8th grade AB, 8th grade honors’ AB, and two sections of 7th grade AVID. Mrs. Alfheim is thrilled that many teachers on the REC campus are implementing AVID strategies within their own classes. She has even taught her own children strategies that helped them in college courses. Her family motto is “where you are going to college, not if you are going to college.” All members of the Alfheim family are proud Fresno State graduates. They are definitely “bulldog born, bulldog bread,” as her children are the fourth generation to receive a degree from Fresno State.

I am in my fourth year of teaching at Reyburn Intermediate. In addition to teaching AVID, I teach 8th grade general science, honors science and am the yearbook adviser. I also coach cross country and track for the timber wolves. When I'm teaching or coaching, I love spending time with my niece and my two dogs, Nala and Coco. I believe that every students is capable of not only getting into college but excelling at the next level. I truly believe that the strategies taught in the AVID classroom are beneficial for students in middle school, high school and college to see success across the curriculum. I absolutely love being a t-wolf and look forward to helping you reach your college dreams! #packpride

Being a positive person, I can positively describe myself as a “seasoned” teacher!! I have been perfecting my craft for 29 years, and I positively believe I will get better every year. Becoming an AVID teacher is a pivotal part of my educational journey as this amazing program has empowered every aspect of my educational career. The goal of AVID is to maximize the achievement of all students and (secretly) it does the same for the teachers as well. Being a mom of three (two college graduates and one sophomore Smittcamp honors student), I understand from both the parent and the teacher perspective the “journey to college.” AVID most definitely makes that journey more clear and accessible. I believe in the AVID strategies and proudly tell others I am an AVID teacher because I know this class and this program can make a positive difference in a young person’s life. I hope this year, my students’ lives will become a bit more clear, the clouds will fade away and the path will be more defined, so high school will be better than imagined.
